What is a shrine?

The objective of my structure was to amplify the sound of the waves. I also wanted to show subtle changes in the area by contraction and expansion of the space. Some areas narrow down while some open up into a wider space. The central space with geometrical triangles  helps create an echo like effect while all the surrounding surfaces reflect the sound of the waves causing amplification.

The narrow entrance gradually opens as we move forward and towards the end, a wider perspective of the sea opens up. The structure constantly changes ones experience as they walk along because of the changes in the space. 

The narrow space might induce a component of fear and uncertainty but as we walk forward, the space enlarges and provides a different experience. The largest opening of the structure facing the sea act as an entrance and passage for the sound of the waves. The triangular structure allows the sound of the waves to reverberate and give a calm and soothing experience altogether.
